We’ve all heard by now that Jamie Lynn Spears, younger sister of Britney is pregnant at the age of 16. To me, anyone who spouts anything but compassion and deep empathy for these 2 girls is out of line. I’ve read all of the offensive words to describe a ‘naughty’ female when discussing these 2 girls. This is outrageous to me. These two girls have been exploited to sell themselves as sexy and appealing. For crying out loud, Britney was in beauty pageants as a young girl!! Corporate America pushed these 2 girls to become these sexy and alluring images of ‘perfection’. The minute they ‘cross a line’ in their personal life, they are suddenly slut
s and whores. Where is that line? Who creates this line? There’s a plethora of pictures of Britney in her teens giving the lusty eyes with her midrift showing. Was she a slut then? Or did her record executives tell her to do this because she was “pretty” and “likeable?” Or these executive nothing better than high-powered, high-class pimps?!Neither of these girls went to high school like the rest of us. They didn’t undergo the embarrassment, rights of passage and awkwardness that the rest of us shlumps had to go through as teenagers. Neither of them were ever told “no” or to simmer down when we got a little big-headed. They were encouraged to be conceited and flaunt what their mama’s gave them. Why doesn’t everyone “get” this?!
In turn, both these girls internalized this sexual allure that they hold over the opposite sex as powerful and as their identity. Is it really that shocking that both of them have found themselves in dire situations thanks to horny, young goldiggers before even reaching their mid twenties?! Were these sleazy record executives looking out for their spiritual and emotional well-being while taking those pictures of their navels and lusty eyes?

I’m not interested in mother-blaming. Too easy and way too insulting. However, I do strongly question who is reaching out and helping these 2 girls. There seems to be a lack of direction and perspective. Why was Jamie Lynn living with her boyfriend at the age of 16? This seems like an awfully mature life decision at the tender age of 16, regardless of how “mature” someone might seem. Why isn’t Britney doing everything in her power to get those boys back? Stop the insanity, someone!
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that these 2 girls were raised under the Hollywood umbrella of make-believe. I beg the obvious, yet not-commonly-asked question: Where are the corporate suits that exploited these 2 girls to become an image of sexual-prowess-perfection now (‘perfection’ according to the western world, that is)? Is it any surprise that the people that pushed her to sing "I'm a slave for you" are now the one's beating her down? This isn’t just about ‘bad’ parenting…..where are their supports now? And if I hear one more person calling either of these girls a slut, I will lose it!

I hear ya sister... This is a travesty - these women have been pushed as commodities, and it's trafficking as far as I'm concerned. Just my two cents...
Well said JLS! I believe our hedonistic, morally retarded, diseased society creates these situations in the same vein as freak shows.
Here, here lady - great critique on the media frenzy surrounding the Spears sisters. Why is it that even if I try I can't seem to avoid the endless stream of reports sensationalizing them? It's all over every form of media day in and day out. I think we all need to pay more attention to what this says about our society and what we value. Why is this so interesting to all of us and why do so many people get joy and riches out of the problems of others!?!? Don't we have much bigger problems in the world to focus on? These same problems - mental health and addiction issues, teen pregnancy- exist all around us, in our families and our neighbourhoods. We need many more critiques like yours Jenny and we as consumers need to stop supporting media that perpetuates these derogatory views of women's lives and bodies.
